Shooting Courses

All courses are run by Wales & West Small Arms Training Team (W&WSATT).

All courses run in order. You must complete a coaching course to progress on to the Range Conducting Officer courses. The Coaching course is open to Instructor Cadet NCOs and the Basic Range Course may be taken by CWOs over the age of 20. The Weapon Instructor Qualifications are shown at the bottom of the page and are available to all staff and Instructor Cadets you do not need to be have attended a coaching course or be a range officer.

You must ensure that you are fully trained on the relevant weapon before you attend a course as you will be required to pass a Weapon Handling Test.

Basic Coaching

Teaches the basic principles of marksmanship and coaching. qCWHT may also be awarded to candidates completing the qCWHT assessment.

Basic Range Course - RMQ (AC) SR

Qualified to run indoor range and outdoor 25m/30yd ranges with the No 8 rifle.

L98 Conversion

Qualified to run 25m/30yd with the L98A1.

Gallery - RMQ (AC) LR

Qualified to run all types of non ETR Gallery ranges and act as Butts Officer.

ETR - RMQ (AC) LR ETR

Qualified to run standard and Converted Gallery ETR ranges and run consoles.

Qualification to Conduct Weapon Handling Test - QCWHT

Qualified to conduct weapon handling tests.

Weapon Instructor - WI (AC)

Qualified to conduct Weapon Training.
