The Nijmegen march is an annual event that takes place in Holland. The march is the world's largest walking event, and is also one of the world's largest sporting events.There are usually approx. 40,000 participants, 8000 of which are military teams. Military teams must march 25 miles (40km) a day, over a four day period.Every year the walk starts on the third tuesday in July. A high level of training is needed to reach the fitness and stamina standard to take part, ATC nijmegen training starts 6 months before the actual event.A Nijmegen qualifying march is held at RAF Cosford, which involves a 50 mile march over the two days. Team members have to complete the two days within the set time to ensure their place at the Nijmegen march! The people who complete the march are awarded with either one day or two day medals!
