On 1st October 2010 Flight Lieutenant Richard Fry had his last day as Commanding Officer of 360 (Llwchwr) Squadron.

After 15 years Flt Lt Fry is bringing an end to his career in the Air Training Corps to focus more on his family & work as Head of Civil Contingencies and Resilience for the Mid & West Wales Fire Brigade. Richard joined the RAF in 1970 as a ground radio technician, and served in Northern Ireland, Germany, Belize & the Maldives.

On 22nd September 2010 Matthew Beers was promoted to the top of 360 squadrons Cadet NCO team.

After joining the squadron in 2004 Matthew has show excellent qualities in Leadership, Teamwork and Commitment amoungst other things and gained awards and qualifications in Shooting, Band, Duke Of Edinburgh's Award, Kayaking, Sport, First Aid, Aviation Studies & Climbing.

We wish Matthew all the best in his new role and hope he continues to achieve great things with 360 Squadron.

Congratulations are in order for Sgt Claire Winder & Cdt Rhys Mathias who have both passed thier Gliding Scholarship courses with flying colours. Both cadets undertook many weekends of training at 636 VGS in Swansea Airport.

Every year 360 squadron join 499 (Port Talbot) squadron at the Aberavon Beach Festival to provide entertainment via our squadron band. A great day was had by all as the weather stayed nice for the day and the public turnout was very good.

Our newest corporal was promoted on 09/07/10. Ricky Merriman is a well know cadet who's two brothers Ian Merriman & Alec Merriman & his sister Lisa Merriman were all previous NCO's of 360 squadron. Ricky sets an excellent example of how a cadet should behave, is the 2IC Tip drummer in the band and has excellent uniform. We hope that Ricky manages to work his way through the ranks and achieve the rank of CWO like his brother Ian.

On the hottest weekend of the year so far 360 squadron's band performed at Pontardulais Carnival, the band marched through the incredibly packed streets of Pontardulais on what is the longest parade of the year.

Squadrons from all over 3 welsh wing flocked to 215 City of Swansea Squadron to take part in the annual 3 Welsh Wing AFCO Quiz night 2010. Squadrons were invited to enter a team of 4 cadets and 1 staff member each, and were challenged in the areas of RAF Knowledge, General Knowledge, Picture round, Brain Teasers, Sport & Music.

A brilliant day of Kayaking was had on the North Dock in Llanelli on June 20th. The sun was blazing and the breeze was lovely and cool. All 12 cadets got to kayak and a few brave cadets attempted and mastered the Kayak roll, or sometimes known as the Eskimo Roll.

Following a week of beautiful weather four cadets from 360 squadron took to the sky gliding with 636 Swansea Gliding school on 18th June. For one cadet in particular it really was a magical experience as it was her first time flying in a glider. The cadets were joined at the Glididng School by Sgt Winder & Cadet Mathias who are currently on a continuous gliding scholarship course.

Congratulations to Cadet James Adams for winning the Cadet Of The Month Award for April 2010.
Cadet Adams has been a cadet on the squadron for just over a year and is very popular.
He has very good attendance and since joining the squadron has participated in kayaking, climbing, walking, camping & much more.

3 Welsh Wing held thier annual Raft building & race competition on 13th June 2010 at North Dock, Llanelli.

There was a good turnout and 7 squadrons submitted a team to compete. Even though the weather took a turn for the worst the competition went ahead and congratulations go to Llanelli squadron who won 1st place.

360 didn't do quite as well, see the pics here to see what i mean!
